The purpose of the KCSO Traffic Unit is to ensure the safe and efficient movement of traffic throughout Knox County by enforcing traffic laws, investigating traffic collisions, and promoting road safety initiatives. ___
Enforce traffic laws and ordinances within Knox County
Conduct DUI Enforcement and checkpoints as directed
Investigate serious and fatal vehicle collisions
Assist with traffic control at major incidents, special events, and emergencies.
Conduct targeted enforcement in high-incident areas.
Educate the public on traffic safety through community engagement and awareness campaigns.

This certification is mandatory for all full-time law enforcement officers in Tennessee. It encompasses comprehensive training in areas such as legal procedures, defensive tactics, firearms proficiency, and community policing.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office Field Training Officer (FTO) Program is an intensive, hands-on training process designed to bridge the gap between academy learning and real-world policing.
The KCSO Traffic Unit assembles together highly trained and skilled automobile and motorbike operators to monitor traffic issues in Knox County.
